Maxam Acquires Exclusive Rights to Affordable Concrete Housing System

November 15, 2007. The demand in the U.S. and increasing numbers of countries for affordable houses and other structures (e.g., community clinics, commercial stores) is established and growing rapidly. Requirements over the next 10 years are projected to exceed 50 million such structures, and ultimately on the order of several hundred million worldwide.

Maxam’s has acquired exclusive rights to a patented system to manufacture and erect such structures (the "System"). It is the best-of-breed and offers many benefits vs. other systems and approaches, including:

The panels can be manufactured locally to the project site using indigenous raw material, if available, and include built-in utility conduits and hook-ups.

The structures can be erected very quickly on a prepared foundation (on the order of only 90 minutes for a basic single story structure).

Unskilled/minimally-skilled people with only basic training and a skilled supervisor are required to manufacture the panels and erect the structures.
The finished structures, in addition to being attractive, functional and durable, include windows, doors, etc., and are ready for occupancy when erected.

Maxam, through a strategic business relationship, also will be able to provide window, wall and floor treatments, appliances, etc., very inexpensively from sources in China.

The structures are rated for California, Alaska and Japan seismic (i.e., earthquake) conditions and 200+ mph winds, and, being concrete, will not be damaged or destroyed by extensive rains or flooding.

Maxam's patented anti-fungus/mold/mildew, anti-pest and anti-microbial/bacterial Additives can be used in paint for the structure to mitigate such problems that are common in tropical areas.

The System has been demonstrated to be viable for manufacturing/constructing affordable structures, with approximately 15,000 units already built and occupied in the Philippines and Middle East.

Housing for middle class/income and upper middle class/income people also can be designed and constructed with the System.

The finished structures are expected to qualify for LEED certification where this is required.

The structures manufactured/constructed employing the System represent approximately a minimum 15% overall cost savings and 75% time saving vs. the other approaches/systems

and most importantly, given the large number of houses that are needed in many countries,

The System provides the opportunity to employ many of the people that will occupy the homes, and thus provide them with sustainable jobs/incomes with which to pay the mortgages.

Maxam is pursuing specific major project opportunities for the System in the U.S. and various other countries, such as India, South Africa, Israel, Philippines, Panama and several other countries in Central America.

Maxam has entered the System as the “Maxam House” in the 2008 annual World of Concrete (WOC) Most Innovative Product Contest (MIP) in January.
